[FAO] : Communication Specialist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASK(S) AND OBJECTIVES TO BE ACHIEVED The Communication Specialist shall operate under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Indonesia, the general supervision of the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases Operations (ECTAD) Programme Team Leader in Indonesia, and direct supervision of the National Communication Specialist.

Working in close consultation and coordination with the IEC team and other members of the ECTAD Indonesia team, FAO Representative in Indonesia Communication team, government counterparts, donors, and implementing partners, the incumbent will be the junior member of the communication team with responsibility to support the implementation of communication activities of the FAO/GOI ECTAD Indonesia Programme, Indonesia, according to the work plan and communication strategy set by the National Communication Specialist, Country National Veterinary Advisor and Country Team Leader:

Specific responsibilities will include:


1. Supporting social media activities (for @FAOIndonesia & Instagram) such as but not limited to drafting contents, scheduling contents, responding to followers in timely manner and gathering analytics

2. Supporting social media activities, such as, but not limited to, drafting contents, scheduling contents, responding to followers in timely manner and gathering analytics

3. Drafting website articles, reports and success stories

4. Support the outreach and promotion of FAO global campaigns indcuding World Food Day, international

years and days.

5. Supporting public outreach events and activities based on the work plan (such as talk shows, public

dialogues, exhibitions and various forms of online/offline events).

6. Performing other duties to fulfill communications objectives as requested by ECTAD team leader

7. Performing other related duties as required


KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Expected Outputs: 1) Supports to regular media engagement activities (press release, media data base and media events) Required Completion Date:

2) Supports to regular social media activities (monthly content production and monthly analytics)

3) Compelling writings in the forms of website articles, reports and success stories

4) Supports to talk shows, public dialogues, exhibition and other public outreach activities

5) Creative ideas and inputs to the implementation of above activities


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES Academic Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related social science fields. Technical Competencies and Experience Requirements:

  •  Minimum of one (1) year of experience in related field (internships can be considered);

  •  Good writing skill in Bahasa Indonesia and English;

  •  Good public speaking skill in Bahasa Indonesia and English;

  •  Proficient in operating social media channels, creative content production, scheduling assistants and analytics;

  •  Familiarity with media engagement activities and public outreach activities;

  •  Familiarity with agriculture, animal health or global health issues is an asset;

  •  Creativity, agility and adaptability in conducting public outreach activities;

  •  Possess good interpersonal and communication skills;

  •  Ability to work on multiple tasks with time-pressure;and

  •  Ability to work in a multi- cultural environment with sensitivity and respect to diversity
