SNV Netherlands Development Organization
SNV is an international not-for-profit development organisation established in 1965 in the Netherlands. By connecting our global expertise with long-lasting in-country presence, we help realise locally-owned solutions in more than 25 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. SNV specialises in supporting development actors' resourcefulness by developing local capacities, improving performance and services, strengthening governance systems, creating access for excluded groups, and making markets work for the poor. Our global team of advisors use their specialised expertise in Agriculture, Energy and WASH to improve the health and livelihoods of millions of people, focusing on the poor and marginalised groups. Gender and climate change are cross-cutting issues underlying all our interventions. To ensure significant and lasting change, SNV works hand-in-hand with national and local government and civil society actors, cooperatives and the private sector.
Kartini project
Friesland Campina has been running a women empowerment program in Pakistan and Nigeria to support women in becoming better farmers by providing tailored training on technical, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills. PT Frisian Flag Indonesia plans a Women Economic Empowerment program, called Project "Kartini Peternak Hebat Indonesia" in Indonesia, with three dairy cooperatives in Java. The program's overall objective is to realise economic growth and self-reliance for female dairy farmers and structural poverty reduction by improving the efficiency and profitability of Indonesia's dairy value chain, through capacity building of pre farm gate practices, improving farmer services and promoting gender equity.
The Kartini Peternak Hebat Indonesia program is divided in 3 pillars as follow:
Pillar 1: Capability in equality: increasing milk yield and quality by professionalising 90 female farmers of 3 dairy cooperatives by organising a training program on technical skills and providing them with one-on-one farm advice.
Pillar 2: Dairy Entrepreneurship: improving farm support services by creating 30 female livestock entrepreneurs within 3 dairy cooperatives by developing an intensive tailor-made training program/curriculum and by connecting them to private sector partners.
Pillar 3: Lead & Manage: creating a better enabling environment for female farmers on the household and cooperative level in 3 dairy cooperatives by training 1,500 female and male farmers and extension staff.
SNV will support Friesland Campina's/FFI's "Women Empowerment Programme, Project "Srikandi". The interventions aim to increase gender equality, leadership, capacity and economic empowerment for 1,500 female and male farmers in three cooperatives in West and East Java. The implementation period will be a total of two years, from 2020-2022.
